Assignment: Elements in the human body

Use information found on pp 27, 487, and 488 to complete this assignment.

1. Is the human body made mostly from nonmetals, metalloids, or metals?

2. Identify the most abundant metal in the human body.

3. How do elements commonly found in the atmosphere compare to elements commonly found in the human body?

4. What percent of the mass of your body is carbon? 

5. Compare Table 11.2 and Fig 11.2 found on pp 487-8 of the text.  Use data from Fig 11.2 to account for the high composition of two elements listed in Table 11.2.  Clearly defend your answer citing information from this table and figure.
